Do contacts protect your eyes from the sun?
The most obvious factor in the summertime is the bright sunshine, which can often hurt your eyes. Our contact lenses don’t have any protective properties against this, so you’ll need to take the same precautions as you usually would while out and about.
With this blinding light, you might be wondering if your lenses are going to be at risk. Don’t worry- the bright light is no more an enemy to your lenses than regular light. The main thing you should focus on is how your eyes feel. If the bright light makes them feel more irritated than usual, you can wear your lenses for shorter periods. Just remember to keep your eyes hydrated and your lenses clean, and pop some sunglasses on if the light gets to be too much.
Can I wear my lenses in the pool or in the ocean?
You shouldn’t risk putting your lenses in contact with any chemicals or foreign substances. Even regular tap water can disrupt their natural state and be harmful to your eyes. Unfortunately, this means that wearing your lenses in the pool or in the sea isn’t recommended. Don’t worry- you can keep your lenses on for a quick photoshoot in the sun, and then pop them safely into a sterile contacts case while you go swimming!
