What is SFX Makeup?

SFX Makeup refers to special effects makeup; anything that looks a little gory, kooky, or unnatural. This can include a huge range of products, all of them perfect for adding a little magic to any spooky costume.

Here are some of the SFX makeup we provide on our website:

  • Mehron/Paintglow Fake Blood

  • Mehron/Paintglow Face Paint

  • Mehron Eye Palettes

  • Stargazer Coloured Foundation

  • Stargazer Coloured Powder

  • Paintglow Liquid Latex

  • Paintglow Spirit Gum

  • Paintglow Scar Wax

  • Woochie Latex Prosthetics (horns, wounds, ears, etc.)

  • Paintglow UV Face Paint

  • Paintglow UV Lipsticks and Eye Liners

Some of these, like our latex prosthetics, might seem a little intimidating to the untrained eye. But if you’re looking for a little extra gore this Halloween, there’s no reason to panic: with our affordable prices, you can shop for small 50ml and 12ml fake blood containers or bottles of liquid latex, and play around until you feel confident.

Still not sure where to start? Here is a spooky werewolf look by @makeupmadhouse, one of our talented affiliates:

In this gorgeous yet terrifying Halloween look, @makeupmadhouse is using our Yellow Solar Eclipse Lenses, which give a glowing, animalistic edge to her look.

The real strength of this look lies in the details: the fine-line face painting, the sharp, pointed canines, and most of all, the fake blood dripping down her chin.

For this look, @makeupmadhouse is using our Dark Venous Stage Blood, from the high-street brand Mehron.

This fake blood may seem intimidating, and the SFX label might make you wary to approach it, but if we take a look at how @makeupmadhouse used this fake blood, it’s actually a very simple process.

Here is @makeupmadhouse’s process, step by step:

  1. First, she pours out the fake blood into a cup, so that it’s easier to use.

  2. Using a cotton bud, she picks up a little blood at a time.

  3. Slowly, she dabs some blood under her lip, wherever it might naturally fall.

  4. This process can be as long or as short as you want- just play around with the blood, letting it drip down and mix with your makeup.

  5. Less is more- two bloody drips down the sides of her mouth are all she needs for a creepy look!

And that’s it- no secret technique! All you have to do is apply the fake blood wherever you want it, and you’re good to go. And if you accidentally add too much, simply use a makeup wipe to clean up the excess.

TOP TIP: The messier, the better; a gory look will seem more realistic if the blood is all messed up and random!

Here is @makeupmadhouse’s stunning final look:
