Contact Lens FAQs:

How much do contact lenses cost?

Contact lenses can be priced very differently depending on the type you’re purchasing. At Coloured Contacts, we make sure to only stock lenses made with the best materials. However, we still have a lot of variation in price. Our cheapest lenses are the daily lenses, as they are single-use. You can also take a look at our sale for our current lenses on offer, which are constantly changing. Make the most of our 3 for 2 multibuy promotion, or scroll through our Expiry Sale to see ultra-cheap lenses on offer.

Where can I buy contact lenses?

You can buy contact lenses right here on Coloured Contacts! Browse our colored contact lenses in the menu above. You can filter by style, duration, price, prescription, or color. With hundreds of styles to choose from, we’re sure that you’ll find the perfect costume lenses for you.

Can I wear contact lenses?

The most frequent question we get is- Can anyone wear contact lenses? In general, the answer is yes. Of course, if you have a specific eye condition, it may prevent you from wearing lenses, but generally speaking, most people can wear contacts. If you’re ever in doubt, just talk to your GP or optician. We recommend talking to a trusted eye-care provider before your first lens purchase, regardless, so that you can find out your eye measurements and prescriptions. We try to stock as wide a selection of lenses as possible, so that everyone can find the perfect fit for their eyes. You can shop our prescription lenses here.

We also often get asked- Can I wear contact lenses with dark eyes? The answer is yes! We know that it can be hard to find colored contacts that cover darker eyes, which is why we’ve created our ‘Lenses For Dark Eyes’ page. This page contains all of our highest-coverage lenses, full of vivid pigment that will cover dark brown eyes. You can check each lens page for more information, like graphics of the lens on different eye colors, and a coverage scale that shows you how pigmented the lens is. Click here to see all of our lenses for dark eyes.

What would I look like with contact lenses?

You might also be wondering how the lenses will look on your eyes. As we said above, you can find handy graphics on all of our lens pages, showing what the lenses will look like on different eye colors. You can also try our new Virtual Mirror technology to test the lenses on your own eyes. Simply turn on your camera and check out the lenses you’re interested in, all without spending a penny! Find out more about our Virtual Mirror here.

Are contact lenses safe?

Yes, contact lenses are completely safe. We make sure that all of our lenses are manufactured with high-quality materials. You can check a lens page to see more information about it, like the type of material, water content, flexibility, and measurements. While the lenses may vary in thickness or hydration, all of them are entirely safe for use. Check out a lens page to see the FDA rating or CE marking of a pair of lenses. Of course, you need to make sure you’re looking after your lenses correctly to avoid any discomfort. There can also be very rare cases of allergies or eye conditions. If you have any doubts at all, we recommend reaching out to a trusted eye-care provider for advice ahead of time.

Are daily contacts the same as monthly?

No. Contact lens durations can be a little complicated if you haven’t heard about them before, but essentially, we sell three different types: daily, monthly, and 90-day. Our daily lenses are single-use, meaning that you can wear them once only. Our monthly (30-day) lenses can be reused for up to 30 days after opening, and our 90-day lenses can be reused for up to 90 days after opening. That’s why our monthly and 90-day lenses tend to be more expensive. Just remember to clean your lenses in between uses, and never wear a pair of contacts for more than 8 hours at a time, in order to avoid your eyes drying out. Find out more about our different durations here.

How long do contact lenses last?

We’ve talked about lens durations, but contacts also have an expiry date. Just like with any perishable product, the expiry date tells you when the lenses go out of date and can no longer be used. If the contacts have gone past their lens expiry date, you should throw them out, no matter their duration.

How do I prepare contact lenses?

Now that you’ve got all the information for picking the perfect lenses, what do you do once you receive them? The first thing to do is examine your packaging and make sure that the lenses are the correct style, measurement, prescription, and duration. You can also check the expiry date to ensure that the lenses are in date. Most of our lenses come in blister packs, which allow you to see the lens from the outside of the packaging. We recommend examining the lenses for any damage or debris before opening the box, as sealed packaging is easier to return in case of any issues. Once you’ve checked that the lenses are clear of debris and damage, you’ll need to prep them for wear. To do this, simply rinse the contacts with fresh eye-safe solution, place them in a sterile contact case, and soak for 2 hours in eye-safe solution. This is important, as lenses straight out of the packaging are covered in a stronger solution, which can irritate your eyes. Read more about preparing your lenses here.

What is contact lens solution?

Contact lens solution (or eye-safe solution) is used for cleaning and storing your lenses. It’s an antibacterial, eye-safe solution that is intended to keep your lenses sterile and safe for use. You can purchase a 100ml bottle of our Chromaview Solution below, or read the blog on contact solution for more information on how it works.

How do I insert contact lenses?

Once your lenses have soaked for 2 hours, it’s time to insert them. All you have to do is hold the lens gently on the tip of your index finger and place it onto your eye, using your other hand to hold your eyelid open. Here’s a handy guide.

Pro tip: Make sure that the lenses are the right way up (U-shaped) instead of inside-out (V-shaped). If you need extra help with inserting your lenses, take a look at our handy silicone inserters. Or read the guide here for more info.

How do I remove contact lenses?

Once it’s time to remove the lenses, make sure that your hands are clean, and then gently pinch the lens up and out, as shown below:

How do I store contact lenses?

After wearing your lenses, you have two options. You can either dispose of them or, if your lenses are reusable, you can store them until your next wear. To store your lenses, you’ll need a sterile contact lens case and some fresh eye-safe contact solution. Rinse off your lenses with eye-safe solution, rubbing gently with clean fingers. Then, place the lenses in the sterile case, alongside a few drops of fresh eye-safe solution. This will help keep your lenses ready for use. Find out more here.

Why do my contact lenses hurt my eyes?

If your lenses are irritating your eyes, there could be many reasons. Some of our lenses feature designs that impair your vision, so if you’re experiencing blurry visibility, this may be why. However, none of our lenses should be hurting or burning your eyes. If you’re in pain, we recommend removing the lenses immediately, and troubleshooting the issue- have you properly prepared and cleaned your lenses? Are they the right way round? Is there any damage or debris on them? You can read all of our troubleshooting steps here. And of course, if the problem persists, please go directly to a trusted eye-care provider.

Can I return the contact lenses?

If you received the wrong lenses, or are dissatisfied with your lenses, you can always return them. However, please be aware that we can only accept returns of unopened, seal boxes, due to hygiene reasons. If you have already opened your box, but have found an issue with your lenses (they’re the wrong style, they look odd, they’re damaged, they’re dry, they’re uncomfortable, etc.), you can contact our customer service team here to request a refund. Find out more about the returns process on our Returns page here.

How can I style contact lenses?

Finally, if you’ve gone through the entire process, and received your perfect lenses without a hitch, you may be curious about how to style them. Whether you’re wearing natural lenses or colored costume contacts, there’s always a fun way to make the look entirely your own!
