Trend 1- Classic Old-School Halloween Monsters
Just like with every Halloween, the big theme this year has been old-school monsters! Ghosts, vampires, zombies, and witches are always huge at this time of year. Check out our monster lenses now for ranges like our witch’s eye and demon eye lenses!
Here are some of our favorite old-school monsters from this year:
This classic werewolf look by @makeupmadhouse is the perfect example of an old-school, simple Halloween costume! Simply blend out some dark contouring and eye-shadow, don some fangs, and try on our Yellow Solar Lenses for an added burst of lupine brightness!
Want more from @makeupmadhouse? This alien look is another perfect example of a classic Halloween costume, with an even more versatile twist than the werewolf look. Aliens can look however you want them to, which means that you can truly let your imagination run wild! You could paint yourself in shades of blue, as @makeupmadhouse did, or opt for an orange or green hue. Or, you could even abandon the idea of body paint, and simply do a colorful eye shadow for a fun, low-effort alien look! Paired with our White Halloween Lenses, any makeup will seem otherworldly.
Trend 2- SFX Gory Horror Looks
If you liked @makeupmadhouse’s werewolf look, we’re sure you’ll be a fan of this trend! With so many horror movies coming out this year and the next, there’s no shortage of gory inspiration, and the more you practise, the more you can play around with your own ideas.
In @makeupmadhouse’s werewolf look, she used our Mehron Fake Blood for an easy, terrifying result. Shop our SFX makeup now for plenty of fun products like fake blood, liquid latex, and scar wax. Not sure what to buy? Our Halloween Kit and Cosplay Kit round up everything you might need in one handy, travel-sized pack!
With new deals daily, and our 3 for £5 accessories sale still going strong, now’s the time to play with SFX and create a creepy character from scratch!
And for a little extra inspiration, here’s another gory look from @callicoquette:
We’re obsessed with this terrifying cannibal look from @callicoquette! Pairing spooky Halloween gore with modern drag artistry is so much fun, and we can’t help but want more. In this look, Calli is pairing her gory outfit and bold makeup with two mismatched lenses: Our White Reaper Lenses and our Red Mini Sclera Lenses. This look is perfect for giving a bloodshot result, and @callicoquette makes things even more dramatic by smearing on some of our Paintglow Halloween SFX Fake Blood. Just like in @makeupmadhouse’s werewolf look, the fake blood is used to create a terrifyingly realistic look. Shop our SFX accessories now- you can find travel-size versions of this fake blood in our new Halloween Accessory Kit, perfect for painting your face on the go!
Trend 3- Halloween Movie Characters
Another fun trend we’ve been seeing this year is spooky film characters! This could be anything from horror characters to cartoons. Think gory Five Nights at Freddy’s, or a revamped Rocky Horror Picture Show costume. There are plenty of fun ideas to get you going, and new films are coming out every day. But the classics are always the best!
Just check out the looks below:
@callicoquette is back with this stunning Frankenstein Bride look, inspired by old-school Hollywood. The white-streaked hair and purple lip are classic trappings of this iconic Halloween look, but Calli takes it to the next level with exaggerated features and UV light!
For another foray into our SFX Accessories, why not check out our UV paints? Calli uses the Paintglow UV Purple Paint and the Paintglow UV Green Stick in this look, perfect for adding precise details around the eyes. And, of course, we can’t forget about our UV I-Glow Cosplay Green Lenses, from our new Cosplay UV range. With a novelty marbled design and a small pupil hole, this pair of lenses adds a spooky, inhuman glow to @callicoquette’s Franken-Bride. Check out the UV glow of our lenses under blacklight! And for your own last-minute costume, browse our new UV styles here:
For a more recent adaptation, check out this Nosferatu look by @sallyquinncreations. The Nosferatu movie was one of last year’s biggest hits, and we’ve seen plenty of people recreate this spooky cosplay on our socials. Here, @sallyquinncreations is choosing to replicate an older iteration of the terrifying vampire, and we couldn’t be more obsessed!
Our White Mini Sclera Lenses are perfect for adding an unsettling, unnatural look to these kinds of characters, layering a wider diameter over your natural iris.
Trend 4- Iconic Spooky Duos
Finally, you might be doing Halloween alone, or you might be doing it with your favorite person! And there’s no better way to celebrate your loved ones than with a creepy Halloween costume that shows everyone how you feel about each other. From current pop culture ideas like Wednesday and Enid, to classic pairings like Scooby and Shaggy, we’ve truly seen it all! But the biggest trend for duos this year has been none other than Wicked.
With the first film making a huge splash last year, and the second film soon to be released, it’s no wonder how popular this franchise is for cosplay lovers and Halloween fanatics alike.
Check out these Glinda and Elphaba looks from our talented affiliates:
This Glinda cosplay by @rubymediamakeup is the perfect simple makeup for this Halloween! If you’re not a fan of gore or body paint, simply apply some soft glam, add a pink cut crease, a tiara, and call it a day! Glinda’s signature is her clean skin and twinkling eyes, so there’s no better pairing for this simple costume than our Pixie Pink Lenses!
And you can’t have the good without the wicked. This Elphaba look by @mua_sophie_sfx is truly the perfect pair to @rubymediamakeup’s Glinda! The green face paint, props, and prosthetics make this a slightly harder look to pull off, but you can always keep it simple with some green eyeshadow and contact lenses. We would recommend any of our green styles, or you can take a leaf out of Sophie’s book, and add a little contrast with our White Angelic Lenses!
So, hopefully you’ve now got a good idea of the Halloween top trends this year. Whatever your look was this Halloween, we’d love to see it! Tag us @colouredcontacts; we can’t wait to see how you all spent your spooky season!
We’re so glad to close off yet another successful year of creepy costumes, and we hope you’ve been following along all October! Even as the season draws to a close, there are always new products and new deals coming, so stay tuned.
And until next Halloween… stay spooky!
