Movie makeup covers a range of makeup styles, including prosthetic makeup for creating SFX characters in Sci-Fi and Horror movies to applying camera-friendly makeup to give a natural look in front of the camera. A film makeup artist usually describes someone who applies makeup to the face of the actors whereas a body makeup artist will apply makeup to other areas of the body. This may include SFX wounds and effects such as scales or alien skin for Sci-Fi movies.

An Austin Powers costume is a classic gag fancy dress costume and who doesn’t love an excuse to be silly while in fancy dress? @hollymurraymakeup has created this hilarious video in her Austin Powers makeup which includes a wig, prosthetic front teeth, and a pair of Brown Coloured Contact Lenses.

Jareth Labyrinth makeup is a super fun look to recreate thanks to the bold eye makeup worn by David Bowie in the film. Holly has nailed this Labyrinth makeup complete with a wig and glass ball prop. The Jareth Labyrinth costume completes the look and she has replicated David Bowie’s unusual eyes by wearing one brown contact lens.

  • Character: Dr Frank N Furter
  • Movie: The Rocky Horror Picture Show
  • Lenses: Freshlook Brown

Dr Frank N Furter makeup is a totally iconic look that many have copied to dress up as this eccentric character. Whether you are getting into the spirit by dressing up for a performance of the Rocky Horror show or are creating a Dr Frank N Furter costume for your next party, this Rocky Horror makeup is easy to complete with items you already own. Pop on a wig, a string of fake pearls, and a leather-style top and you are nearly ready to go. Holly has created an incredibly bold red lip and dramatic eyeshadow exactly like the film. To match Tim Curry’s eye colour, she has finished this off with some brown contact lenses.

Pretty Woman features many outfits and hairstyles worn by Julia Roberts as Vivian Ward. The most popular costume from Pretty Woman is the blonde wig and blue and white mini dress. However, Holly has opted for a flame-coloured wig and white shirt to complete her Pretty Woman costume. Again, Holly has switched her natural eye colour to brown using a pair of our coloured contact lenses. This is a great way to ensure your cosplay is as close as possible to the character you are dressing as. If you have amazing makeup skills like Holly, you can even contour your face to match the features of your character.

Creating The Mask makeup is plenty of fun. Make sure you have stocked up on green body paint and if you want to really commit to the look, add a bald cap. After applying your base layer of green face paint, you can contour your makeup using a darker shade of green to create the angular style of Jim Carrey The Mask makeup. Holly has completed her awesome The Mask Halloween makeup with the instantly recognisable yellow suit and a pair of green coloured contact lenses.

In Holly’s next look, she has taken on one of the evilest witches in the Harry Potter franchise in this Bellatrix Lestrange cosplay. Holly has taken her Bellatrix cosplay to the next level by creating her Bellatrix costume using only body paint. Holly’s phenomenal body paint skills mean that the makeup dress looks just like it is made of fabric. She also paints on tattoos and a necklace as part of her Bellatrix Lestrange makeup. To create her dark and eerie eyes, Holly is wearing black coloured contact lenses paired with contouring Bellatrix makeup to transform herself into the Helena Bonham Carter portrayal of this character.

This video showing off Holly’s Coraline makeup is so cool and creepy! A Coraline costume is an ideal easy fancy dress idea as all you need is a yellow coat and a blue wig. Of course, Holly takes this one step further by painting Coraline’s yellow coat in amazing detail. This look is completed with purple coloured contact lenses.

Avatar makeup has become a classic look to try out among makeup artists and is sure to look cool at your next costume party. The Yellow Avatar Lenses are the perfect match for this character. Start with a base of blue face paint and build some contouring and stripes to create the look of the Na’vi. Complete your Avatar character with magical white dots and prosthetic ears.
